Wildcat wrestlers take 15th place
Cisneros, Weiss earn All-Americans rankings
April 4, 2020
The WSC Wildcat wrestling team came home from Texas March 15 with two NCWA All Americans, Tyson Cisneros and Hunter Weiss, and placed 15th among National NCWA Division I teams.
“This was due in a large part to having four seniors on the team who bought in and led the way with the work ethic and attitude needed for this level of success,” Coach Greg Vander Weil said. “The WSC wrestling culture has been developing over the past 12 years and the result is the success of this year’s team.”
The finish was the second best individual national tournament team score of 40 for WSC, just behind the 48 points of the 2015 team.
Cisneros, a senior, placed third in his 235-pound weight class, the highest placement in Wayne State wrestling history.
Weiss, at 149, also a senior, placed eighth.
Other results included: Ryan Zoucha, a freshman, at 133, 1-2; Marcos Osorio, at 141, freshman, 0-2; Ethan Fitzler, a senior, at 157, 4-2; Dalton Sobotka, a junior, at 197, 0-2.
Vander Weil said the team’s spring banquet has been postponed until fall, date to be determined, when a pre-season banquet will be held and also celebrate the 2020 season. “What a great 2019-2020 season for the team, but what a bummer it’s being overshadowed by COVID-19,” Vander Weil said.
