A new preschool, in Wayne is opening in fall 2015. Wayne Community Schools’ Early Learning Center will be located at Sunnyview Place Business Park, 803 Providence Road.

“When we first brought the idea of starting a preschool to the Board of Education, we knew that we wanted to help families and help children be as successful as they can be. Learning begins at birth—and being a parent is a tough job. We want to partner with parents as early as possible to help support them and their children—following our district mission of ‘Learning for Life,’” Misty Beair, Special Education Director at Wayne Community Schools, said.

According to the superintendent of Wayne Community Schools, Mark Lenihan, “the first year that the preschool is open it will accommodate a maximum of twenty 4 year-olds, and ten 3 year-olds. We want all the children in town to have access to the preschool. The last several years, children in kindergarten didn’t attend preschool because the other ones in town were too full.”

The 4 year-old preschool classes will be on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. The 3 year-old preschool classes will be on Tuesday and Thursday from 8:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.

Lenihan noted that the application process will be available at the schools in town later this spring, hopefully sometime in March. Information about the application process and the upcoming preschool will be posted on the Wayne Community Schools’ website (http://www.wayneschools.org/) and will be put out in various newsletters.

“Some of our goals are to offer help, support and education for parents of young children; to work with existing preschools and daycares to make sure we are reaching as many families as possible,” Beair said. “We want to offer a centralized location for continuing education for preschool teachers and daycare providers; to support a system of observations and monitoring for all preschool-aged children so that we may celebrate successes and work on concerns as early as possible; and to offer another quality preschool program in Wayne.”
