The Back Stop Sandwich Shop

A new restaurant arrived in town over this last summer bringing sandwiches, salads, baked goods, coffee and smoothies. The Back Stop is located across the Wayne State College campus, in the back of the Short Stop gas station, serving every day of the week.

“We wanted to add another option for students to be able to get food from and hang out but also offer the community to have somewhere else to grab food. As well offering those who go to work early a reason to come in and get food before they have off for the day,” NAME said. “We have breakfast sandwiches, burritos and biscuits and gravy. For lunch, we do sandwiches and salads. Twice a week on Wednesdays and Fridays, we do different lunch specials.”

On Wednesdays, the restaurant does panini sandwiches and on Fridays, they offer up a home cooked meal option including casseroles, chicken breast and veggies or pastries. The Back Stop also offers gluten free options, cinnamon rolls, other baked goods,  smoothies, coffees and Redbull mixes.

More information about the shop can be found on posters located around campus as well as at the website backstopwayne.com, which has the menu and social media links for Facebook and Instagram.

“We plan on one Thursday a month to have a special night where students can go get coffee, have open mic nights, trivia and more,” said (name).

“I am interested in going to trivia nights,” said Aaron Friedenbach, a student at WSC. “I’m glad there is another option within walking distance from campus where I can get something to eat and hang out with my friends in between classes.”

“When we heard of this place recently opening up next to campus, my roommate and I decided to go,” said Monserrat Huitron Horta, a WSC student. “We both got the chicken sandwich which was quite filling and really delicious.”

Huitron Horta also mentioned the fair prices which are perfect for college students who are on a budget, recommending the Guava Passion Fruit smoothie. “I hope the campus can support this small business and check it out and enjoy a good meal,” Monse said.

Back Stop is open Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., on Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. They also have baked goods from the attendants in Short Stop when the restaurant is closed.
