The SAB committee gave out over 150 paintings to students for free in the student center on Wednesday, Feb. 16 at 11 a.m. The only requirement was to write one’s name and student ID number on the list when one picked the painting you wanted.

The paintings consisted of many different black historical figures such as Martin Luther King, Rosa Parks, Harriet Tubman and Jackie Robinson.

“We want to spread awareness here at WSC,” Brittany Ellison, an SAB member, said. Black history is an important piece of history in America and the committee thought it would be a fun idea to give out paintings because who doesn’t like art?”

“I enjoy giving back and showing love to the Black community especially during Black History Month is just small step I can take in trying to make a change in our world,” Ellison said.

“The SAB board members always have brilliant ideas and when the committee came to me with the idea of giving out art to students all I could do is smile,” Eddie Hernandez, the program director, said. “I wish we had more than 150 paintings because they were gone fast. This is what I love, this is what I signed up for.”
