Five 45-minute fitness classes are being taught in Room 203 at the Wayne State College Rec Center, and are available to all WSC students, faculty, staff and staff’s spouses and dependents until the end of the spring semester.

These classes are not just for professionals.

“The [fitness instructors] all do a pretty good job of taking anyone in at any time and modifying them [fitness classes] for beginners,” Mike Barry, associate athletic director and director of sport and Rec Center, said.

Yoga classes are offered on Mondays and Wednesdays at 4:15 p.m., and on Tuesdays at 2:15 p.m. WSC senior Samantha Armstrong teaches this class with the focus of linking breath to movement.

Triple Threat Tabata is every Wednesday at 2 p.m. This strength fitness class uses equipment varying from dumbbells to stability balls. Triple Threat Tabata aims to “encourage a healthy metabolic function” according to wsc.edu.

Yogalates is every Friday at noon. This combination of yoga and pilates is taught by Angela Nuss, an adjunct faculty member in the health department.

Pilates is offered every Wednesday at 5:15 p.m. This “low-impact” class intertwines flexibility and muscular strength, and highlights “postural alignment, core and balance” according to wsc.edu.

Cycle 360 is available on Mondays at 2 p.m. and Thursdays at 5:15 p.m. This cycling class offers the chance to ride a bike that works the core.

Signing up for classes is easy and Barry has advice on how to do it.

“Sign up for classes two weeks ahead of time using the IMLeagues app,” Barry said. “Make sure the classes are open before joining.”

About 8-12 people can join each yoga, Triple Threat Tabata and pilates classes. Cycle 360 can hold about five people.
