Wayne State College students were able to utilize an opportunity to purchase professional clothing and items at a discounted price this past Sunday, Jan. 30.

JC Penney held an event either online or in person at the store located in Lincoln, Nebraska at the Gateway Mall. During the hours of 3-6 p.m., students were able to purchase professional clothing items, headshots, and utilize the salon for 30% off with a coupon provided by the school.

Jessie Piper, the assistant director of Career Services, noted that this event has been going on for a few years now.

“Our WSC Career Service Office is a part of a consortium with other Career Service offices within the state of Nebraska,” Piper said. “To include the rest of the schools and our students, JCP offered an online coupon that students could use if they were not from the Lincoln area.”

With this event now being held online as well as in person, it was a very beneficial opportunity for students to utilize. Students can prepare for their professional future without having to spend an excessive amount of money to do so.

“This event gives our soon to be graduates and underclassman a chance to purchase attire that’s suitable to wear when interviewing for full or part time jobs and internships or to work once they have landed their position,” Piper said.

Attire has a large impact on the way that potential employers may come to think of you. Professional attire makes a world of difference.

“By wearing empowering clothing others typically presume we are professional,” Piper said.

This was the perfect opportunity for WSC students to prepare for the future. Student Jessica Palmillas was very satisfied with the benefits of this event.

“This event allowed me to improve my wardrobe without having to stress about the cost of doing so,” Palmillas said. “I’m going to begin student teaching next year and this was the perfect opportunity to buy any items I needed.”

This event went well overall and was great way for students to increase future professional opportunities.
