Goodnight, and good luck
December 3, 2014
It hit me today that this will be my last Tuesday night toiling away in the Stater lab on the mysterious fourth floor of the Humanities building, where there are no windows and the ambient temperature ranges from boiling to hovering just above absolute zero.
This is the last night that I get to eat pizza with the other editors while we talk about the weirdest topics we can think of.
This is the last night that Rich and I will scream (friendly) abuse at each other from across the room.
This is the last night I will squint at text on a computer screen and then wonder why my eyes hurt when I finally get home.
This is the last night an editor will ask me for help and I will say, “Looks great!” …And then immediately have a suggestion for improvement. Sorry, guys.
This is my last night as the Editor-in-Chief of the Wayne Stater.
No, I didn’t receive a terminal diagnosis or anything. I’m simply stepping back to focus on my impending graduation.
My time at the Stater feels like the end of a journey that I can’t really remember beginning. A whirlwind of newsprint and deadlines, a mixture of exasperation and elation in equal turn.
I’ve worked with a couple different rotations of Stater staff and I can honestly say this semester’s crew is the best I have ever collborated with. I’m infinitely proud of my editors and they are going to be what I miss the most about these Tuesday nights.
As Edward R. Murrow would say, “Goodnight, and good luck.”
