WSC Volleyball collects two more victories on Homecoming

After the disappointing loss last weekend against Minnesota Duluth, the Wayne State volleyball team bounced back and got the back-to-back win over Homecoming weekend.

Last Friday night, the No. 13 Wayne State Wildcats hosted the No. 24 Northern State Wolves at Rice Auditorium in Wayne and took the a 3-1 set win against the Wolves, the scores of the match were 26-24, 25-14, and 25-22, 25-23.

The Wildcats held a .279 to .266 hitting advantage over Northern State.

Alyssa Frauendorfer had 18 kills with Katie Hughes adding 15 more kills and 13 digs, with Michaela Mestl and Leisa McClintock added a combination of 34 digs in the game against the Wolves.

The Wildcats came out after a WSC football victory and took another 3-1 set victory over MSU Moorhead.

The scores of that match were 25-14, 25-23, 25-21, and 25-17. Wayne State hit a .230 with MSU hitting a .149.

Alex Opperman had 11 kills, which was a career-high for her, with Elizabeth Gebhardt and Hughes adding 11 kills each and McClintock with 10 more kills.

McClintock and Hughes finished the match with a double-double against the Dragons.

WSC had nine more kills than MSU Moorhead (57-48) and had 73 digs to 65 for the Dragons.

The Wayne State Wildcats are 14-2 overall and 7-1 in the NSIC.

The Wildcats will be on the road over the weekend against University of Mary and Minot State then will come back home to play against Southwest Minnesota State on October 14th.
