The Wildcat volleyball team takes to Rice Auditorium after playing 12 road contests to open the season

After over a month of action, the Wayne State volleyball team finally played a home game at Rice Auditorium.

However, the Wildcats couldn’t get back-to-back wins over the weekend.

Wayne State started the weekend with a 3-0 sweep win over St. Cloud State with scores of 25-23, 25-18- and 25-19, but lost the next afternoon to No. 2 Minnesota Duluth.

The Wildcats used 12 kills from Alyssa Frauendorfer and 11 by Elizabeth Gebhardt in the win over the Huskies.

In the first set, WSC led early, but the visiting Huskies rallied late and took a 22-23 lead on Wildcats.

Wayne State then used a kill from Katie Hughes followed by an SCSU attack error and a block by Gebhardt and Alex Opperman to close out the first set with a 25-23 win.

The Wildcats hit a .292 for the match compared to a .171 by St. Cloud State.

On Saturday, the Wildcats suffered its first NSIC loss against the No. 2 Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs, the scores of the game was 25-20, 25-18, and 25-14.

Minnesota Duluth hit .248 for the match while holding the Wildcats to a .070 hitting percentage.

Hughes led the Wildcats offensively with 9 kills also with 15 digs and Gebhardt and Frauendorfer added seven and five kills.

WSC is now 12-2 and 5-1 in the NSIC now.

The Wildcats will be at home again next weekend, hosting the No. 24 Northern State Friday evening at 7 p.m. and also against MSU Moorhead Saturday at 4 p.m.
