The new Residence Life staff for Wayne State College has been selected for the upcoming school year. Those positions include senior resident assistants and resident assistants for the dorms across campus.
Associate Director for Residence Education and Staff Development Abby Schuck had a role in choosing these new staff members. The new staff includes 20 returning RAs, 24 new RAs, and 6 SRAs.
“We are very excited to start working with our new hires and bringing them into the fold with our returning staff,” Schuck said. “We do all we can to put together a staff that is as individual, unique and representative of the Wayne State College population and know our new hires will do great in supporting their peers next year.”
Current RA Elle Sudbeck had insight on the new hires and what Residence Life has meant for her over the past year. Sudbeck said Residence Life has a wide reach and impact on campus, and RAs gain many skills along the way.
“My favorite part of being in Residence Life is making so many new bonds and connections with residents and the staff,” Sudbeck said. “I have gotten to know so many more people and enjoy that I will always see a familiar face wherever I am on campus. I love that I am more active on campus through this position and get to share my love of WSC with others.”
Since there are more new RAs than returning ones, there is the interest of what skills they possess and why they were given the position of being an RA next year. For Schuck, it has been seeing the new people they reach out to through their activities. The different activities that make the new hires so diverse include “student organization leaders, student athletes, international students, sophomores, juniors and seniors” according to Schuck.
“As for the new RAs, I know they will bring their own unique experiences of campus to this job and use creative ideas to help out their residents and Res Life as a whole,” Sudbeck said. “I can’t wait to see the excitement from everyone as we prepare for the next year.”
