Survivor 50 “Survivor 50: In the Hands of the Fans” is an all-star season which means that every player is returning. Not only are these players returning, but they were also hand-picked because they were top contenders in their season. What is unique about this season is that the fans get to vote on key game elements such as supplies, idols, twists and more.
“Survivor 50” is also a historic season that recognizes 50 seasons, 25 years and 715 episodes. The show started as something small that quickly became popular and turned into a family show. “Survivor 50” brings back many familiar faces from past seasons.
One popular player is Ozzy, who is in his fifth season. He is known for being the “tribe provider,” meaning he can fish, cook, build shelter, make fire and more. He is known for resembling Tarzan and being very comfortable in the jungle.
“I’m kind of going to be benching Ozzy a lot more this season…I’m gonna be playing as Oscar this time,” Ozzy said.
Another player is Cirie who is also in her fifth season. She is known for famously getting off the couch and going on an adventure. Throughout her seasons, we have seen her at her lowest and at her highest, most notably overcoming physical challenges and never giving up. In the first episode she was asked what her “Survivor” experience meant to her.
“Survivor is my home. And there’s no place like home,” Cirie said.
Rick Devens is a news reporter who is most known for finding idols. In his first season, he set the record for most hidden immunity idols possessed in a single season. In total, Devens accumulated four idols and played them very successfully.
The first episode premiered on February 25 and showed how the first couple of days went for players. The episode is true to the shows name “In the Hands of the Fans” with several twists in the first moments of the game.
Fans voted for players to compete in a challenge to earn supplies for their camp. They also voted for idols and advantages to be included.
The game started off quick with Colby and Q losing their vote after losing a challenge, Ozzy choosing an extra vote over tribe supplies and a Billie Eilish hidden immunity idol being found. The Billie Eilish idol or “Boomerang” was found by Genevieve. This idol must be given to another player in hopes that they get voted out without playing it, thus the idol will boomerang back to Genevieve and she can use it. She gave this idol to Ozzy.
In addition, the Cila tribe lost the first immunity challenge and voted out Jenna, after she targeted Cirie and came out playing too aggressively.
Also at the immunity challenge, Kyle from Vatu tribe was injured and later pulled from the game due to a torn Achilles tendon, which could have lifelong effects if not treated immediately.
