The Intercollegiate Broadcasting System awards are just about a week away, and so a few members of KWSC-FM are getting ready to make the trip out to New York City in hopes of bringing back the gold.
The IBS will be hosting a conference next week Friday through Saturday. Dr. Sean X. Ahern, advisor to the KWSC radio station, said that this is a yearly conference for student media held in the spring.
“It’s an opportunity for students to see a lot of really great things including professionals in the field, their colleagues and obviously other professors like myself talk about student media and the future of student media,” Ahern said.
Ahern also said that KWSC-FM and KWSC-TV are up for 11 awards at this year’s conference. KWSC-FM is up for best morning show, best news feature and best sports play-by-play while KWSC-TV is up for best news report and best comedy program.
Katryst Chari is a member of KWSC-FM who submitted for the best DJ personality category and is just one of the students from WSC who is going to IBS this year. Chari said that they are excited to go out to the big city and experience the networking opportunity
“After going to CBI [College Broadcasters Inc.] something I really enjoyed was kind of just interacting with other college stations and learning from them,” Chari said. “As much as I am going to and will network with the actual adults, learning from other college students who are basically running their own station is where I feel the real meat of the learning is.”
