The “10 Under 10” Alumni Panel hosted at the Gardner Auditorium presented a view of the alumni’s current lives last Friday, Sept. 26.
The panel was held to commemorate ten alumni members for their achievements and contributions to their communities and professions. Throughout the panel, each alumni speaker was given a question, to which they would respond about what they do and how Wayne State College prepared them for their careers.
For those attending, it was a great way to understand what the accomplished in their professions. It shares what they’ve thought of WSC during their time, which was full of positive comments.
“I think the unique thing about Wayne State is just the number of opportunities that you have to create your own story here,”Adam P. Smith, WSC ‘21 alumnus said. “…if the path isn’t already there, if the opportunity isn’t there, you can create it yourself, and you can make it yourself.”
In further discussion, it came to mind that a few of the alumni members did not have their current profession as their initial major.
“I really thought I wanted to be a [physical therapist] or [occupational therapist], did a lot of job shadowing and really couldn’t find the right fit for me,” Meghan S. Taylor, WSC ‘15 alumna, said.
Smith and Taylor both explained their shifts from their science-based major to their current professions that resonated with them.
As the panel came to an end, the alumni speakers shared some advice for students thinking of switching their major or what to do in college that would connect with them in the future.
