Chloe Hanel, a sophomore at Wayne State College, has an interesting story to tell about how she was committed to Wayne State College as a junior and how volleyball has been one of her passions here at Wayne State College.
Hanel believes that even with her looking into other sports to try out, she always had her eye out for volleyball, and it has always been her dream to play for college volleyball.
“Volleyball was just my confidence boost and it’s just the sport that gave me the confidence and kind of helped me figure out who I am, so playing at the college level and just meeting new girls has been such a blessing,” Hanel said.
She also explained how she felt when she committed to Wayne State College when she was just a junior in high school.
“It was a good feeling and obviously knowing that college coaches are looking at you but that’s something I never really focused on when being committed,” Hanel said. “I just really tried to enjoy my time in high school when I was a junior and a senior and to just soak it all in because I knew once I got to college it was going to be a whole other game and a whole other group of people. I just feel like it was obviously a great feeling to play more but I just needed to soak it in with where I was at in the moment.”
Overall, for Hanel being a college volleyball player is such a great opportunity, and she explained how Wayne State College and being a volleyball player has inspired her.
“Just the girls, honestly like they just push me to be the best version of myself and same with the coaches,” Hanel said. “Having that connection automatically when you’re here obviously, it’s hard to come to college and not know anybody but just knowing you have those girls automatically it’s like a little family, and to just always lean on and whatnot so that always inspires me to play my sport, just knowing I have other girls going through the same thing like having the same struggles, and the same ups and downs and whatnot.”
Hanel feels that celebrating with teammates and being able to travel with them and doing mostly everything with her teammates has been such a light in her life and she is very grateful for them and for having this opportunity to play with them.
“Hanging out with my teammates is great and they are like my best friends so it’s just a blessing to be with them every day and hanging out with them every day,” Hanel said.
Feeling grateful for her teammates having her back, Hanel told an interesting story about what goes on behind the scenes of volleyball.
“We have little dance parties in the locker room before practice games and everything, there’s always a dance party going on,” Hanel said. “We do dance parties because it makes us laugh and Kaelyn Andersen, she’s a junior and she has the dance moves that makes everyone crack up so it’s just kind of a good thing to get your mind off whatever you’re stressing out about.”

Hanel also explained why she picked Wayne State College to be her college.
“Wayne State College really made an effort to support me in volleyball but also in my other sports, and they just didn’t come to my volleyball games, they also came to my basketball games too and they followed my track stuff. They weren’t just so focused on the one sport that they wanted me for, they also respected the fact that I had other interests and pursued other sports as well,” Hanel said. “Yeah, I definitely had that love for volleyball and they knew that, but I just think having that kind of understanding and support of mindset when you’re coming into something really helps.”
