Weapon on campus
On Friday at 7:15 p.m. a 911 call was made regarding a male non-student on campus outside Neihardt Hall reported to have a weapon.
“Law enforcement officers responded and arrested the suspect within four minutes of the call,” said Jay Collier, director of College Relations.
At 7:19 p.m. a Wayne Police officer was on the scene and arrested the suspect at that time. After the incident, Neihardt was placed on lockdown as a precaution while law enforcement cleared the area after the arrest.
“We were not aware of the situation until law enforcement responded and resolved the incident,” said Collier.
After the incident, the campus community was informed once the college had all the facts from the event.
“Our communication to campus was an informational alert, not an emergency alert,” said Collier. “The campus community should be proud of the excellent response by Wayne police officers and Wayne County sheriff’s deputies who responded so quickly and efficiently.”
