The Wayne State College club wrestling team, 12th-ranked in the nation, needs help to finance its way to Nationals.

As a club sport, the wrestling team does not get very much financial help from the school, so the athletes have to pay their own way to meets. It can be hard for college kids, who already have a full class load plus practice every day, to pay their own way every time.

The team needs 100 $50 friends to help send them to the NCWA Collegiate Dual in Dalton, Ga., on Jan. 21-24.

“Thank you for all of the people who donated last year. You made a top 10 team,” coach Greg Vander Weil said. “We need help to send the kids to national dual as well as the national tournament in Florida March 9-13.”

You can see flyers around campus on how you can help send this team to their biggest dream.

The Wildcats have a few ranked wrestlers this year, including Jacob Vogel (9th in the 141 lb. division), Tanner Clark (11th in the 184 lb. division) and Matthew DeGamo (4th in the 197 lb. division).

WSC will be heading to UNK Friday and Saturday to compete in the UNK Loper Open.
