Week of fun still to come for Homecoming
October 7, 2015
As another year at Wayne State passes by, many students stand teary eyed because many of their friends have graduated. But Wildcats should not despair because the great week of Homecoming is here. While new students may not think their first homecoming at Wayne State will be special, the campus has many things planned to make it an enjoyable week for all of the Wildcat family.
While some events have already passed, like Monday nights coronation, there are still a lot to look forward to. Wednesday starts Wayne State’s annual “ARTSwalk” where the various clubs and students will showcase their skills in art, music, poetry and theater. Some activities in the ARTSwalk are interactive so feel free to partake if appropriate. The ARTSwalk will start on Wednesday and continue until Friday.
Many students will be honored this Thursday at a scholarship luncheon at 11:30 in the morning.
Though students may be tempted to go home on Friday, this would be the weekend to stay in town. The Planetarium will be playing two different shows with “Compass, Clock, and Calendar” at 1:30 p.m and a showing of “Under the Stars” at 7:30 p.m on Friday. Between Planetarium shows, students will have the chance to either participate or watch the Willy Olympics—an event in which teams of students have to go through many fun and interesting trials. The Frey Conference Center will be holding a Banquet and Social for “Outstanding Alumni.” For Wildcats that are interested in more sports related fun, the Wildcats volleyball team will be facing off against Bemidji State University at 7 p.m on Saturday.
Students should plan on setting their alarm clocks on Saturday to attend the Wildcats Day Parade at 9:30 a.m. Two brunches, one for the President’s Society and the other for the honored class, will be held at 10:30 a.m.
More fun will be had while tailgating at the Wildcat Tailgate party at Bob Cunningham Field at 11:30 a.m., before the Homecoming Royalty be introduced at 12:30 p.m. at the football game against Southwest Minnesota State University at 1 p.m.
Campus members will have another chance to catch Planetarium shows, with “Flight Adventures” showing at 2 p.m. and “Back to the Moon for Good” showing at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
After football and the Planetarium shows, students will have another chance to go support the Wildcat volleyball team as they square off against the University of Minnesota Crookston at 4 p.m.
The Homecoming weekend will come to a close with a banquet and social celebrating the Homecoming Hall of Fame on Oct. 10 at 5:30 p.m.
