WSC volleyball looks to continue hot streak

Senior libero Courtney VanGroningen and junior middle/outside hitter Alyssa Frauendorfer were named to the 2015 Rockhurst Volleyball Classic All-Tournament Team in Kansas City, Mo.
The Wayne State College Wildcat Volleyball team won three out of four matches on Friday and Saturday at the Rockhurst Volleyball Classic. The Wildcats move to 7-1 on the season.
The team started out on Friday beating Oklahoma Baptist 3-1. Leading the team in both blocks (3) and kills (14) was junior Alyssa Frauendorfer. Leisia McClintock led the team in assists with 47
while Courtney VanGroningen led the team with 22 kills.
WSC fell to 17th ranked Rockhurst 3-0. The Wildcats were again led by Frauendorfer with 11 kills. McClintock had 32 assists to lead the team. Elizabeth Gebhardt led the team with six blocks and VanGroningen led with 16 digs.
The Lady Wildcats bounced back nicely beating Pittsburg State on Saturday, only allowing the Gorillas to score 16 and nine points in the first and second sets, respectively. Katie Hughes led with 11 kills, McClintock had 29 assists and VanGroningen had 15 digs.
In the final game of the tournament, junior middle hitter Frauendorfer had a career highlight game against McKendree. She had a career high 24 kills, twice as many as her next highest teammate. Michaela Mestl helped out the Wildcats by adding four aces. McClintock added 50 assists on the night and VanGroningen had 26 digs.
The 7-1 Wildcats look to continue their hot streak as they take on conference foe Sioux Falls on Thursday at 7 p.m. in Rice Auditorium. The Wildcats will then travel to Southwest Minnesota State for a 3 p.m. start time on Saturday.
