WSC Volleyball starts 4-0

The Wayne State College volleyball team started their season off this past Friday in the Dunn Hospitality Invitational Volleyball Tournament in Evansville, Indiana. The Wildcats went 4-0, only dropping one of their sets during the tournament.
The Wildcats started the weekend playing Northwood Michigan, winning the sets 25-13; 25-14; 25-20.
During the first game, senior Katie Hughes led the team in kills (11), and co-led the team, with senior Courtney VanGroningen, in aces (3), while junior Alex Opperman and senior Leisia McClintock both led the team with two blocks each.
McClintock also had the most assists for the team at 24 and junior Michaela Mestl led the team with 14 digs.
WSC continued their dominance into their second game on Friday where they beat Southwest Baptist 3-0: 25-11; 25-15; 25-10.
Junior Alyssa Frauendorfer led the team in kills with 12.
McClintock once again had the most assists with 34 and Hughes led the team with 16 digs.
WSC kept the momentum going into Saturday, defeating Kentucky Wesleyan 3-0: 25-13; 25-5; 25-13.
Senior Elizabeth Gebhardt led the team with 11 kills, while McClintock had 28 assists and Mestl had 13 digs.
WSC faltered slightly in their fourth and final game of the weekend.
Although they won their match against Southern Indiana, they did fall in one set.
The final scores were 25-22, 21-25, 25-16 and 25-17 as Hughes led the team with 15 kills and 22 digs. Mestl led the team with three aces and Frauendorfer led the team with four blocks. McClintock finished with 51 assists for the night.
The Wildcats will look to continue their success when they travel to Kansas City for the Rockhurst Tournament this Friday and Saturday.
