Students and faculty may have already noticed that the Wayne State College Student Center has been given a new name.

Many buildings on campus have a namesake, such as Carhart Science or Connell Hall.

Now the Student Center displays the title “C. James & Barbara K. Kanter Student Center.”

James and Barbara Kanter are two of WSC’s most generous financial sponsors. They have contributed to the Willow Bowl renovation along with supporting the college’s Alumni House renovation and are donating to the Conn Library renovation.

Barbara has also established a scholarship for WSC students called the Barbara K. Kanter Endowed Scholarship. She’s a proud supporter of the service learning program as well.

The couple resides in Minneapolis. Barbara graduated from WSC with a bachelors in business administration in 1976, while Jim graduated from Kearney State College.

They choose to support WSC because of their strong beliefs in the value of a state college education.

Change can be difficult, but the staff at the college would like to hear students and guests of the college to start calling it the Kanter Student Center.

It’s the least WSC can do to thank the Kanters for their generosity.
