Branis Knezevic came to WSC for college for counseling, and now she is assistant professor Branis Knezevic for the counseling department.

“I am a graduate from the Wayne State Counseling program,” Knezevic said. “This is where I got my master’s, so I am familiar with the program and really happy to come back to Wayne State. First as a student and now as a faculty member.”

She has always been a part of teaching and counseling.

“I worked as a school counselor for about eight years,” Knezevic said. “And so I have a school counseling background. Before that I worked as an elementary teacher for many years.”

While working as a school counselor, Knezevic was also earning her doctorate from University of South Dakota in counseling.

“Eventually, when I finished my doctorate I was thinking of changing jobs and looking for something that is college level,” Knezevic said. “I was very happy that it was perfect timing for me that there was an opening (at WSC) when I was done with the program.”

Beyond working as an elementary teacher for many years in the United States, she also lived in Canada for 13 years, teaching for seven of them.

Professor Knezevic likes to stay involved with activities and happenings at WSC. She goes to the many campus events, including plays and speakers.

“I love Wayne State. I’ve always wanted to work here, even from when the time I was a student,” Knezevic said. “I’ve always felt very connected to the department and the counseling faculty. They’ve been a great support from when I was a student and throughout my doctorate and it’s just really great to come here and work with all of them.”
