New all-time saves leader

Curtis Bussard, a junior left-hander from Papillion, became WSC all-time saves leader Friday night.

Bussard has 11 saves over his career, including two this year.

“It’s an honor to be a part of a great statistic, but I’m more concerned with winning games and doing everything I can to help the team,” Bussard said.

Bussard was multi-sport athlete in high school, starting three years in basketball, football and baseball. He ranked among the Class A leaders in ERA (1.88) and strikeouts with 44.

As a junior, he helped his team to a district championship and in 2011 to a baseball title.

Last year as a sophomore at WSC, Bussard was named second team All-NSIC relief pitcher. He was also named Rawling/ABCA All-Region gold glove outfielder after an impressive season.

“I’m just happy to be a part of the WSC organization. I love these guys and would do anything for them,” Bussard said.

With only 12 games remaining, WSC’s main priority is making the conference tournament.

“We need to take strides every day to get better defensively. If we can do that we have a chance to do something special,” head coach Alex Koch said. “Our goal is to make the conference tournament and to be playing the best ball of the year by then.”
