Wayne State College, meet your new Student Senate president and vice president.

Quinn Rochford has been elected as president for the upcoming 2015-2016 academic year. He will be replacing current president Nathan Boggess.
Rochford is a double major in accounting and finance and has served on Student Senate since his sophomore year at WSC.

“Since his involvement on Student Senate, (Rochford) has really stepped up and helped me out,” Boggess said.

Boggess is looking forward to seeing Rochford finish some things on campus that he started.

“We agree on a lot of things,” Boggess said.

Spencer Morris has been elected as vice president. He is currently a computer science major and plays for WSC’s baseball team.

“It’s kind of funny, he pulls off the computer nerd and the athlete,” Boggess said.

While he hasn’t served on Student Senate previously, Rochford believes Morris is more than capable.

“Spencer is a very outgoing guy and in touch with a lot of people on campus,” Rochford said.

Rochford, an Omaha native who attended Creighton Prep, has been busy with a different organization: WSC’s rugby team. As captain, his team qualified for the Elite 8 in Philadelphia and will have a chance to play for the national title on May 30 and June 1.

“It was awesome, probably the best experience I’ve ever had,” Rochford said.

After school, Rochford plans on attending graduate school for accounting. He also wants to become a Certified Public Accountant.

This summer, he has accepted an internship with Union Pacific in its Finance Department.

“I’m pretty excited about that,” Rochford said.

After his internship, he plans on returning to Wayne and making his impact. He already has a lot of ideas.

“I want to make a big difference that will last for a while,” Rochford said. “One idea I have is trying to expand our student weight room.

“For how many people use it, I think we need to make it better,” Rochford said.

Already in motion is replacing the exercise park northeast of Bowen with a pavilion.

“We’re going to get a water fountain up there, tables, and possibly Wi-Fi,” Rochford said. “If you have a big group of friends that want to all play sand volleyball and have a picnic, that’ll be there for everybody.”

Being a representative of the student population, it’s fitting that Rochford is open to ideas from the student body.

“If anybody has ideas, they should definitely come to us and see what we can do,” Rochford said. “Just leave parking alone.”
