Wayne State traveled to Minnesota this weekend to play back-to-back doubleheaders against 10th-ranked St. Cloud State at Faber Field only to come home without a win.

The Huskies of St. Cloud State beat the Wildcats 7-0 in the first game and 5-0 in the second contest.

Wayne State was held to a combined total of six hits in the first two games. Nate Ackerman doubled in the first inning, having the only extra base hit that game.

Michael Herman, Albert Johnson, and Zak Leighton also added singles for the Wildcats.

Pitcher Eric Browning allowed just three hits over five innings, racking up five strikeouts. Browning was charged with five runs, all unearned, due to Wildcat errors.

Sheldon Miks, starting pitcher for the Huskies, only allowed two hits to the Wildcats in the second game in the 5-0 loss for the Wildcats.

Sunday’s doubleheader for the ‘Cats resulted in two losses as well, one of them in extra innings.

In the first inning, Ackerman had a solo homer for the Wildcats, but Wayne State could only muster up three more hits the rest of the game. St. Cloud State had a huge 11-run fifth inning and won the game 18-1.

In the fourth game, designated hitter John Roberts hit two solo homers in the fifth and seventh innings for the Wildcats. The Huskies tied it in the bottom of the ninth inning and won in the bottom of the twelfth, 4-3.

Wayne State scored in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings. Wildcat pitcher Dylan McGill pitched well, allowing just three hits, two runs in seven innings and striking out 10 batters.

The Wildcats drop to 12-14 overall and 7-7 in NSIC play, while St. Cloud State improves to 28-2 and 12-2 in the conference.

Wayne State will be on the road again, facing Winona State Wednesday in an NSIC doubleheader.
