Letter to the Editor
April 8, 2015
Dear Editor,
Every year for the last 20 years the staff of Wayne State’s official on-campus radio station (yes, we have one) has put on a charity event called the 24-hour remote for Haven House. This year we’re back and ready for one of our best years to date.
Haven House is actually part of a national network of services that provide support and hope for victims of domestic violence. The United States is ranked among the highest in reported cases of domestic assault. Now, in the interest of complete fairness, some countries don’t report or don’t take domestic assault as seriously as we may do here.
But it is very serious, and it’s very important that we talk about it and try to help those who are in a violent situation. If there is only one solace we can take from the atrocities of Ray Rice, Greg Hardy and others, it’s that it got people talking about the very widespread and growing issue of domestic abuse.
91.9 the Cat is going to be around town from the hours of noon on Thursday April 9, until the following noon on Friday April 10. If you see us in and around town, stop by our table and say hi, and help us donate to the very worthy and very important cause of helping those who are in the most desperate of situations.
If you or someone you know is in a violent situation, do not hesitate to get help. In a dire emergency, always call 911. For Haven House’s crisis line you can call 1-800-440-4633, or for their regular office number in Wayne it’s 402-375-5433. The website is havenhousefsc.com.
Join 91.9 the Cat to raise money for Haven House April 9-10.
