Career Services to host Grad Finale March 5 and 6

As much as Wayne State College will miss its graduating seniors, it has designed a program that makes it simpler for them to leave.

The Grad Finale takes place each semester to give graduating seniors the opportunity to tie up all their loose ends before accepting their degrees in May. The event will take place on March 5, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and on Friday, March 6, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the WSC Student Center Atrium.

Jason Barelman, the Director of Career Services at WSC, oversees the program, which began last spring and will continue to run every semester.

Various offices from WSC will be attending, allowing seniors an easy way to prepare for graduation.

“It’s basically one-stop shopping,” Barelman said.

One of which is student-financial services. If seniors have student loans, they’ll be able to set up times to take their required “exit interview.” They’ll also be able to pay any outstanding fees they may owe.

Graduating seniors will also be able to order their caps and gowns through the bookstore.

“There is a very short window of getting that done, by mid-March, in order for the gaps and gowns to get here by graduation,” Barelman said.

Career Services will also be there to help with any questions students may have about graduation, including the job search process. Also, seniors interested in furthering their education can learn about the various grad programs WSC has to offer.

The Grad Finale, however, is not required.

“If students choose not to go through it, they can go through every office individually and check out with them,” Barelman said.

Such businesses as Jostens, which allows seniors to customize a college class ring, will attend the Grad Finale. Students will also be provided refreshments and snacks as well as the opportunity to win door prizes for attending.

“I just encourage everybody to take advantage of this,” Barelman said. “You can take care of everything in half an hour or less and be ready for graduation, which is one less thing to worry about.”
