Millie Niggeling provides leadership towards a title

In the Wildcats’ nail-biting victory over Sioux Falls Friday night, senior forward Millie Niggeling had 21 points for Wayne State, just one shy of her career high.

WSC played the Cougars earlier in the season and handled them pretty easily.

“We really struggled to hit shots, we played good defense but we just couldn’t hit shots,” Niggeling said.

The game went into overtime and ended on a missed shot by USF. But Niggelings dominate performance kept their 12 game win streak alive, improving the ‘Cats record to 22-3 on the season.

“Coach got the ball to me and they played me one on one, so he went to me more and I just got it going,” Niggeling said.

Niggeling played Division 1 basketball at University of Massachusetts before she came to WSC. She appeared in 48 games averaging 3.3 points and 2.5 rebounds.

“We weren’t as successful at Umass, but we work hard here and it pays off,” Niggeling said.

The senior standout averages 11.7 points, which is third most on the team this year.

Millie attended Bishop Heelan High School in Sioux City. She led her team to four state title appearances and won two state championships.

She knows what it takes, and wouldn’t mind getting back to that feeling.

“It would be awesome to end my collegiate career with a championship title,” Niggeling said. “We have the talent and good coaches.”
