Students stepped into a room full of opportunity Wednesday, Feb. 25, as the Wayne State College held a career and internship fair. The event brought in many employers from businesses, school districts, healthcare systems and corporations.
Conversations buzzed as students moved from table to table, introducing themselves, shaking hands and asking questions about available positions. Some students even brought their résumés. The fair, organized by the campus, is meant to give students access to professionals. Employers came and represented a wide range of industries, many offering internships.
Angelo Biel, a sophomore at Wayne State said he was hoping the event would help him gain clarity about potential career paths and find employers with similar values. After attending the event he felt it was very beneficial.
“My most meaningful conversation was with an employer who shared practical insight about what employers are really looking for beyond just grades, especially initiative and character,” Biel said.
For seniors, the stakes may feel higher. With graduation only months away, many hope to be employed directly after completing their degrees.
Underclassmen who also attended had the opportunity to gain exposure and access to potential career paths, using the event to explore industries and ask questions about required skills and internships. The fair also provided the opportunity for underclassmen to understand what employers expect, from things like communication skills to leadership experience.
As the fair concluded, students left carrying company brochures and business cards. While not everyone left with a confirmed internship, many left with increased confidence and clearer goals.
Anslie Koethe, a freshman, said she hoped to gain a clearer understanding of different career paths.
“I had multiple booths that expanded my continued interest in behavioral health,” said Koethe.
The Career and Internship Fair served as more than just a recruiting event. For many students, it was a practical step toward turning academic preparation into real-world opportunity, reinforcing the importance of networking, preparation and professional growth.
