On Friday Feb. 20, Wayne State College’s student senate announced Simeon Weers and Robynne McMaster as the new president and vice president elect for the 2026-2027 school year. The newly elected were announced through email three minutes after the voting polls closed. Both Weers and McMaster shared that they were excited after receiving the email announcing that they each were the new elect.
“I was pretty pumped,” Weers said. “I called Robynne, and we both kinda just screamed on the phone in so much excitement.”
McMaster said she heard the news by word of mouth.
“I actually didn’t find out from the email,” McMaster said. “I got a knock on my door from two of the RAs, and it was exciting and shocking.”
Both Weers and McMaster said they are focusing on their three pillars as their goals to bring to the student senate. The three pillars are act, communicate, and advocate. They want an action-oriented campus improvement, with enhanced communication between the student senate and body and advocacy for student desires on every level.
“We want to make sure that the projects that were enacted are the ones that the campus needs and what the students want,” McMaster said.
Weers also wants to focus on building onto what’s already there.
“I just want to continue on what past presidents have done,” Weers said. “They have set us up in a great position to keep improving and spreading the word about what the student senate is and having that engagement with the students.”
Weers and McMaster will be sworn into the student senate as president and vice president on April 13 with the rest of the student senators.
“I think it’s going to be a really good opportunity for us to see and get to know the people well being with and I’m really excited to see what we’ll do,” McMaster said.
