The 2026 Winter Olympics, taking place in Italy, have featured athletes from across the globe coming together to participate in skiing, snowboarding, hockey and curling, among other sports over the past week and a half.
One of the biggest stories of the Winter Olympics, especially for American fans, was the United States women’s curling team’s stunning upset victory over the Canadian women’s curling team. This was significant because Canada has long been viewed as one of the premier olympic curling teams and the United States had never previously beaten Canada in Women’s Olympic Curling. Many people were shocked by this result, and it was one of the highlights of this year’s Winter Olympics.
As the host country, Italy performed impressively with their athletes winning numerous medals. Countries such as Norway and Canada also performed well. Norway performed extremely well, especially in skiing, reinforcing their well-known prowess in that sport. Canada also performed well, especially in hockey and almost every other sport, although the loss to the United States in women’s curling was surprise criticism for Canada.
The 2026 Winter Olympics have so far been a huge success, providing entertainment through memorable moments and record-breaking wins alongside an opportunity for countries to compete in their respective sports and unite as one through sport. The Olympic athletes and fans will soon shift their focus to 2030 when the next Winter Olympics will take place in the French Alps.
