Wayne State College’s softball team welcomes a group of new signees every year, but it’s not usual that they welcome a transfer with a career like Jadeyn Stahr.
Stahr is a junior transfer from Iowa Central Community College where she held a stellar career as a pitcher. At ICCC, Stahr played two seasons earning NJCAA All Region Second Team as a sophomore with phenomenal stats.
In 2025 Stahr had a 14-3 record, a 2.58 ERA, with four saves and 51 strikeouts. Stahr also helped the team to a 49-12 record overall and a trip to the NJCAA Division II World Series.
Stahr shared her experiences from when she was starting the transfer process and mentioned that WSC’s coaching staff stuck out among every other school she was looking at.
“Honestly it was the coaching staff,” Stahr said. “I knew right away that they could help me develop as a player.”
WSC Softball is led by head coach Christy Warnock, who is known on campus as a coach who pushes her athletes to full potential and leads by example and faith. Warnock also led the Wildcats to have the biggest turnaround in NCAA Division II softball last season when the Wildcats had a 31-24 overall record.
She is assisted by former WSC baseball player Noah Roberts, who contributes as a pitching coach to the Wildcats and Graduate Assistant Kim Vidlak who played five years with the Wildcat softball program.
Stahr mentioned that one of her biggest challenges coming from junior college to Division II was the strict practice times and the competition.
“The biggest challenge for me was the practice schedule,” Stahr said. “Because in juco they don’t really have a lot of rules for practice like D2 does and obviously the competition is a lot harder.”
Despite the challenges Stahr had to face transferring to WSC, she explained that she wants to bring that momentum to the Wildcats by knowing her role on the team and being a great team player.
“Honestly just playing my role on the team,” Stahr said. “I want to get a lot of innings in, that’s always a goal, plus we have a team goal of getting like thirty plus wins and winning the conference tournament.”
The Wildcat softball team opened their season on February 7, going 4-0 in the Wildcat Dome Triangular, and splitting with Dordt University on February 11. This weekend, the Wildcats are traveling to the Washburn Tournament in Topeka, Kansas but will open their conference season on March 21, at Minnesota Duluth.
