As the spring semester starts at Wayne State College, career fairs and education fairs start popping up for students to attend. In order to look your best, those events usually expect professional dress to help make a great first impression. On the WSC campus in Brandenburg room 326, the FBLA chapter hosted its first Wildcat Career Clothing Closet Pop-up of the semester on Feb. 4 to help meet students’ needs.
The Wildcat Career Clothing Closet Pop-up is sponsored by FBLA, but WSC Career Services partners with the chapter to put together the pop-up. With that partnership between career services and FBLA, there is the opportunity for students who missed out on the pop-up. Those students can go to Career Services from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday to access the clothing.
Carlye Kresl, a member of the FBLA chapter, has been helping organize the closet pop-up.
“It is a great way for students to get professional attire and really make a mark in their career readiness,” Kresl said. “I’m just so grateful that this is available on campus, especially for our students that either live really far away from home or just don’t have access to those type of clothes.”
Anyone from the Wayne community or the college can help donate their clothing to the pop-up. At first, the FBLA chapter would reach out to community members to collect clothing donations. In recent times, the chapter has just asked anyone that is connected to the campus or community members for clothing. Donations were dropped off in Gardener Hall or Career Services in Brandenburg.
Dan Gannon, a WSC student, had gone to the pop-up to look at some new business attire for the education fair. Gannon heard about this event through an Outlook email from WSC College Relations. When Gannon went to the pop-up, he found business clothes such as dress shoes, shirts, pants and ties.
“I think these are really important for the campus because we’re broke college students, and not everyone can afford to get a new dress shirt or new dress shoes or even some of the hand-me-downs,” Gannon said. “My favorite thing I found would probably be this flower pattern tie or the new dress shoes I got.”
Future Wildcat Career Clothing Closet Pop-up dates are Wednesday, March 4, and Wednesday, April 1, in Brandenburg room 326.
