Wayne State College may not be the biggest school around, but it has gotten some athletes to the next level. Myles Dais and Marzion Cosby are seniors at WSC who have since been signed to the Sioux City Bandits, a pro arena team.
Myles Dais is a transfer from St. Francis Indiana and played in all 11 games his senior year for the Wildcats. Dais was an essential part of the defensive line at WSC and put a dent in a lot of offenses. He racked up 14 tackles, four of them for loss, and a forced fumble.
Being a Division II school, there are some questions about how WSC might prepare a player for the next level and how that preparation can help them in the long run. Wayne has had a few players make it to the next level, but some see it as rare.
“Wayne definitely helped me in my journey to make it to a pro team,” Dais said. “The coaching staff and how the team is ran helped, along with it being a higher tier football team. Wayne is held to a higher standard than most schools, and that helped me transition over to a pro football mindset.”
Not only did Dais sign to the Bandits, so did his defensive teammate Marzion Cosby. Cosby played for four years at Wayne State and was seen in every game in his four years. He made an impact each year and was a leader on the defensive side of the ball. Alongside Dais, Cosby was an aggressive tackler and ranked high up on his team in some of his years.
Cosby has been training for the pro level and has had to transition to a pro mindset when doing that.
“The biggest challenge is staying consistent with no team around you all year,” Cosby said. “You have to stay hungry and grind, so when your name gets called you are ready.”
The transition between Division II and pro ball has been an experience for Dais. He was a defensive lineman for the Wildcats but is playing linebacker for the Bandits.
“I’ve been with different trainers and really trying to sharpen my position,” Dais said. “I want to prepare for this season to make it far and get closer to my dreams and goals.”
Dais and Cosby have played together for years and have been leaders at Wayne State. The two will team up once again when the Bandits open their season in early March.
