On Tuesday night, Feb. 10, the film department at Wayne State College was able to showcase four films that have been shown before and three new films.
The event started off with a red carpet which included a white backdrop with the Hot Attic logo printed all over it. This carpet gave students a chance to take pictures for themselves, or with friends and family.
As people settled in with their popcorn and drinks, they started the encore, which were films that had been premiered, but they brought back for another showcase tonight. These films included “Artificially Artificial,” “The Ballad of Rudy Callahan,” “The Interrogation” and “Retcon.”
“Being a part of a crew on a student film set is really fun,” Mason Chamberlain, a film student at WSC, said. “I have done a couple different roles throughout my years at Wayne on the sets and I have done social media but this past semester I was a general production assistant.”
After the Encore finished, they then moved to the premiere of three new films. The new films are “Nothing to You,” “The Drop Off” and “Forgotten Motherland.”
“For the new premieres, I worked on “The Drop Off” doing executive sound and boom micing, and for the returning films I did sound for “The Ballad of Rudy Callahan,” Jordan Yates, a film student at WSC, said.
Even if they weren’t a producer or director of any of the films that were shown on the screen tonight, they still had some sort of active role on set whether that be sound, social media, or cinematography. At the end of every film, credits would roll and everyone apart of the crew was credited for their part in the film.
“It’s really surreal especially when I see my name float down in the credits because it’s like oh my gosh, I have credit for something amazing that I was able to do,” Yates said.
When the premiere of the new films finished up, students that were a part of the crew were able to go up and be applauded for their work on the film that they helped on. This was then followed up with panels that included Q&A’s for the audience.
During the Q&A, the audience was able to ask questions to the crew about something that potentially stuck out to them during the film and how the crew decided to go about it.
The night ended with the audience being able to personally congratulate anyone from the crew that they’d like. Films for the next festival are now currently in the works by the WSC film students.
