B-12… N-42 BINGO! At Wayne State College, students get offered a multitude of activities across campus. One of the main organizations that host events is the CatPAC. Across the semester they host different activities like crafts and games. For this particular event they did “Back to School Bingo”, which took place on Wednesday, Jan. 14 in the Frey suite. There were rows and rows of people antsy and excited about the games that were ahead.
CatPAC employee Courtlyn Keeling talked about the different factors that go into picking the prizes for CatPAC events and why they are so important for campus life.
”I think it’s just kind of a good way to get the student body together with the first few weeks of school,” Keeling said. “Sometimes syllabus week can be kind of stressful with getting all of your classes and just getting back into a routine, so it’s kind of fun to bring people together. We get their feedback on what they want to see on campus and provide those opportunities,” said Keeling.
“Typically, we have one big prize, so in the past it’s either been like a speaker or an iPad,” Keeling said. “Today it’s a colored Kindle. And then I think about a lot of the other prizes, we just get them off Amazon and we kind of look at what the top gifts or things that people are buying for this age group… So there is usually something practical in there, something food related, and something fun… a little bit of everything.”
CatPAC has different ways to promote the new events being held. They have two main forms of communication to help the student body know about the events they are planning.
“We typically use Instagram or Wildcats online,” Keeling said. “I believe that all the CatPAC events are there. Mason Chamberlain does all of our graphics for Instagram, through Canva, and so he does a lot of posts for those. Other than that, we also have flyers up outside the student activities office.”
During the event, the participants played many different versions of bingo. That included the regular bingo formation, a T-shaped formation, tiny X formations, and the blackout round. With every bingo someone would get, the winner would come up to the front and receive a prize. The prizes included a sticker printer, a case of ramen, and so much more. By the end of the event, the Kindle was the final, big prize, and it was earned by winning the final blackout round of bingo. The tension was high as the students competed in this round.
By the end of the game, WSC student Korbin Lamburg won the blackout game. After he picked up his prize, Lamburg said his favorite part of the Cat PAC event was winning the Kindle Colorsoft.
