As the spring semester kicks off, Wayne State College has seen new students come in. Where are these students coming from, and what made them choose Wayne?
Wayne State College is noticed for its smaller campus and close community. Many students see value and benefits within a smaller campus with smaller class sizes.
Sophomore Abby Distefano transferred to Wayne this spring semester. Distefano said she first learned about Wayne through a good friend.
“I love that the classes are small, so if you’re having troubles then the teacher knows your name and will be able to help you since there aren’t a lot of people in class,” Distefano said.
The most stressful part of college can be the first week, finding classes, and getting around campus. At WSC, everything is within walking distance and easily accessible.
“Classes were super easy to find,” Distefano said. “I was kind of nervous at first that I wouldn’t be able to find my classes or any other buildings, but I had no problem because everything was labeled perfectly.”
Distefano said she appreciates that the buildings around campus are all withing walking distance. Coming from a much smaller place, Distefano said she is excited to experience a little bit bigger school. The biggest difference she saw between her old school and WSC was the people and community.
“I was on the volleyball team so basically all my friends came through sports, and here I have found other friends outside of sports that have been so nice and so fun to be around,” Distefano said.
Distefano said she has found her community through club volleyball and intramural sports. WSC provides many different clubs such as academic, environmental, sport, and student government clubs. There is something for everyone to enjoy and get involved with on campus.
Wayne also offers touring opportunities through the peer mentors and navigators. Distefano visited campus for the first time with her friend last September and afterward went on an official tour.
“I learned about all of the chances to get involved in the school, which I really liked, and that stood out to me the most,” Distefano said.
Some college students love the big campus life, but some enjoy living in a smaller community. WSC provides a welcoming community with lots of ways to interact and be involved.
