The year didn’t just change for the country western club at Wayne State College this semester. The country western club changed presidents from Dalton Hansen to Daniel Williams.
Hansen graduated last semester, but has been the president of the country western club for three and a half years.
“I was hesitant to hand the reins to Daniel because of his lack of commitment, leadership and organization,” Hansen said.
Hansen said he gave the presidency to Williams because he has shown moments of professionalism throughout the last semester.
“Daniel can do a great job as the president of the club, but just needs to show more consistency,” Hansen said.
Williams is a sophomore and has been a member of the club since his freshman year. He just started the role as vice president in the fall of 2025. Williams’ biggest worries about taking on the new role of presidency are the financial side of it, like handling funds for activities they do and making sure everyone still has fun.
“It’s just a time to go out and dance,” Williams said.
There were some obstacles Williams had to face during this transition. He noted that his biggest challenge was “making sure I get everything in properly and transferred into my name without any hassle.”
Williams does bring new things to the table, like new dances and new songs.
“I want to teach people the new things I have learned, I want to expand so it’s not the same thing every night,” Williams said.
Williams even mentioned that he had an idea of having some themed nights, like a glow-in-the-dark night where the club would use their funds to buy glow sticks and they would dance in the dark while wearing glow sticks.
The club had its first meeting of the year on Wednesday, Jan. 21. Members of the club expressed their feelings about the change of presidents. Kristofer Eischens is a sophomore and has been part of the club since his freshman year. Eischens said that he liked how Williams introduced some new songs that night because it wasn’t the same old playlist.
“Tonight I feel like it was a good introduction to Daniel being the president, and it was a good turnout,” Eischens said.
Riley Hansen is also a member of the club. This is Hansen’s first year being a part of the club.
“I will definitely miss Dalton, but I am excited to see where Daniel leads country night to,” Hansen said.
