On Sept. 8, a video was posted on TikTok by the user @waynestatepisser. The video was very simple: a stream of what appears to be urine being released onto the grass behind the Humanities building with text that says “Watch out Wayne.” Nothing would be the same again.
Part of what makes this TikTok stand out is the amount of mystique around the incident. The perpetrator’s face is hidden behind the phone, and the chosen act of vandalism is absurd. Public urination is a surprisingly common crime. If you’ve ever peed in a public pool, that is public urination. But the way the Pisser communicates is with a vengeance, as if a vigilante. But what is the goal of the Pisser? What is the motive?
We may never get a clear answer, as the Pisser declined an interview, even anonymously. However, it is important to note that he is not solo on his mission. There are several accounts of Pissers that strike on college campuses or even high schools. In the local area, Pissers have struck Kearney High School, Creighton University, and even University of Nebraska Lincoln. With the number of Pissers that rose up around the country, you would think there would be a spark, a mission statement, a point to it all. Yet, there doesn’t seem to be a consistent reason for these sudden unregulated urinations besides the most common thread for all ridiculous stunts: attention.
There are only five videos uploaded to the @waynestatepisser TikTok account, all of which were uploaded this September. A pattern that continues throughout all these videos is a declining amount of view numbers. The first video on the account had amassed over 62,000 views; the next video, over 14,000 views; and after that, over 9,000 views. The final two videos gained over 5,000 views and 3,000 views respectively. It seems that the TikTok algorithm, and maybe the userbase as a whole, is showing a declined interest in tinkle-themed TikToks. This decline in curiosity is likely the reason for the cease in posting beyond one month. The Pisser got his 15 minutes of fame, and then decided it was his time to go.
The world of social media is, evidently, a strange place. As quickly as the Pisser was born, they moved on: a fleeting moment in campus history, which is probably for the best for sanitary reasons.
