Every October Wayne State College celebrates Halloween with activities and decorations for students all around campus. In the final week leading up to Halloween, the Residence Hall Association puts on Haunted Hallways.
Hosted every year in the hallways that sketch out the basement of Bowen Hall, Haunted Hallways is the true college-edition of a haunted house.
This year the event will be open and running between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 27th and Tuesday, Oct. 28th.
The event is free for all students, and walking through the experience will take about five minutes. It will be filled with not only decorations, but real scare actors in costume, many of which will be RAs on campus.
Any students who wish to attend are encouraged by the RHA members to dress up in their Halloween costumes for an even better experience.
“This year’s theme is graveyard… every year we come up with a new theme,” said RHA President and current DA Jacob Ferguson.
The members of the Residence Hall Association look forward to decorating for the event and using their platform as a way to grow the program.
Dalyani Rhodes, current vice president of the RHA said she loves working with the organization because it allows her to spend time with new people and grow her connections. She enjoys the process of putting together the many annual social events held by the RHA.
“Being able to get everyone’s input and being able to have that creative idea over it and just being able to use our imaginations to develop the idea,” Rhodes said.
Over the course of the year, the RHA hosts social events for many other holidays. Much of their programming is focused on bringing people together in a positive way. One regular example of this is their candy grams activity where they allow students to send candy and spread joy. These are hand-delivered to anyone who lives on campus.
For anyone interested in joining the RHA, this event is an outreach opportunity. The RHA meets regularly, every Wednesday in room 209 of the library. Meetings run from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. The primary purpose of the organization is to put together activities for students on campus and create a new space for socials.
While they work to help entertain themselves as well as all the students on campus, the RHA tries to connect themselves to volunteer work as well.
As an added way to support the WSC students, the Haunted Hallways event entrance will be accepting free will donations for The Pantry, located on the South side of Morey Hall. The coordination of the event with The Pantry is designed to help fill the shelves before the winter.
