Wrestling struggles at Briar Cliff meet

After a very impressive showing at the National Duel in Dalton Ga., the Wildcat men couldn’t put it back together for the next duel at Briar Cliff, as the team placed 17th.

Freshman Casey Glassgow wrestled well, going 2-2. Glassgow picked up four team points. Ethan Hirschman picked up another 3.5 points.

Ben Richling picked up his first college win. Richling attended UNO last year before transferring to Wayne State College, which keeps him closer to his family.

“Wayne had the right major I wanted to study,” Richling said.

“It felt good. It was my first match. I feel like I am on the right track.”

“We had a couple guys wrestle well, but we had a lot of guys that just couldn’t get it going. Different guys lost to good wrestlers, but at some point if you want to be an All American you have to beat the good guys. No one was very happy, so today at practice we are going to have a conversation with the guys,” Coach Greg Vander Weil said.

“Maybe it was because of having to carpool to Briar Cliff instead of taking a bus, or maybe it was the preparation leading up to the meet, but that was not very good. We need to remember the 5 P’s: proper preparation prevents poor performance. We are going to drill harder and we are going to wrestle harder,” Vander Weil said during his speech.
