KWSC Sports at Wayne State College will be hosting a new event during the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Volleyball Tournament.
This event is called KWSC Gameday and will be very similar to ESPNs College GameDay but volleyball edition.
This will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 18 during the first round of the NSIC Tournament and WSC is hosting.
The top four teams in the NSIC will host during the first round of the tournament and WSC is tied for first place with a conference record of 10-1.
The Cat Talk crew will host this show, which includes Andrew Reiss, Barrett Stearns, Carson Schnitzler and Armando Alfarez.
This event will take place during every home game of the tournament.
“You don’t see these types of shows at the division two level especially from students. I feel it was important to do something different in doing a gameday for volleyball, it brings more recognition to the sport,”junior KWSC member Andrew Reiss said. “If Wayne State gets the luxury of hosting the NSIC Tournament, the Cat Talk crew plans on having some coaches from not only Wayne State to come on the show, but other coaches to interview them and pick their brain.”
“It means a lot for us to be able to do a show covering volleyball and no one else is doing that,” sophomore Armando Alfarez said.
This will be the first time a College GameDay event will be hosted by KWSC, but it is not intended to be the last.
If all goes well during the NSIC Tournament, KWSC would love to do this even more often and for other sports.
“I’m excited for this. It’s a big project but we’ve worked really hard all semester with production of the games.” senior Carson Schnitzler said. “I think this project will kinda show how much we’ve grown and will be a fun challenge and a really good show.”
The NSIC is one of the top volleyball conferences in division two and currently has seven teams in the top 25.
Those teams include WSC at No. 6, Concordia-St. Paul at No. 10, St. Cloud State at No. 11, Southwest Minnesota State at No. 17, Minnesota Duluth at No. 18, Northern State at No. 22, and Minnesota State Mankato at No. 23.
“I am very excited to get to do this volleyball college gameday for the NSIC Tournament,” sophomore Barrett Stearns said. “It is really a privilege for us to be able to cover a great volleyball team like Wayne State and really a great conference like the NSIC.”
