Tacos Durango, a local Mexican food truck, could give McDonald’s a run for its money if more people heard about it.
You may have seen the small food truck near McDonald’s, but what surprises me is the lack of a longer line waiting for an authentic burrito from this gem of a spot.
One thing that really made me immediately enjoy Tacos Durango was the hospitality I was greeted with. No matter the time or the day, they will always serve you food with a smile on their face. The staff are very respectful, and work with diligence to make sure your food comes out quick and fresh.
If their hospitality doesn’t put a smile on your face, the food most certainly will. The most expensive item on the menu is only $12, which with the quantity of food is borderline a steal. Trust me when I say the size of a Burrito de Asada from Tacos Durango is the size of an adult male’s head.
Speaking of the Burrito de Asada, this is my recommended dish to purchase at this joint. A $12 burrito, twice the size of a Chipotle or Qdoba burrito, is filled with flavor. Inside this burrito you can expect buttery soft brown rice, with some perfectly charred steak that has a little tenderness to it. To add some flavor, they include diced onions, cilantro and a hint of lime. If you are a spice lover like me, they also serve you with a cup of hot sauce to really add some heat into the mix.
Not only does Tacos Durango serve burritos, but they also provide a variety of different options including tacos, nachos, tortas, and quesadillas. I also had the opportunity to try a Quesadilla de Asada from this food truck. Served in a crisp tortilla, with melted cheese, charred steak, tomato, lettuce, onion and cilantro. This quesadilla had a nice crunch to the bite, and a softness of the food melting in your mouth with each bite.
This food truck not only brings a smile to the face when ordering and eating, it leaves you satisfied and full when you finish your meal. With the amount of protein and rice they pack into their products, it really fills the stomach and doesn’t leave you wanting anything else to eat once you’re finished.
I give this food truck a nine out of 10 on the rating scale in terms of taste, hospitality, quality of food and portions. I have gone from passing it by as a spectator, to visiting once to twice a week to enjoy some authentic Mexican food.
If you’re looking for a different place to get some grub that isn’t McDonald’s, Runza or Fiesta Brava, I highly suggest you visit this food truck located on the corner of 610 Tomar Drive. Tacos Durango is open Monday through Saturday from 10a.m.-10p.m. and Sunday from 5-10p.m.
