Wayne State College volleyball wrapped up a key stretch of games last week going 2–1 against Briar Cliff, Winona State, and #11 Concordia–St. Paul.
Last Tuesday, the Wildcats hosted Briar Cliff and gave a dominant performance. A three–set sweep with scores of 25–13, 25–6, 25–21. The Wildcats held the Chargers to .026 percent hitting and forced the Chargers to 18 errors.
WSC also recorded eight blocks, along with five aces. Junior outside hitter, Channatee Robles, had 15 kills, which was the most recorded kills between the two teams. Robles also picked up three aces, and eight digs along the way. The sophomore setter, Molly Romano, recorded a double–double with 35 assists, and 19 digs.
Robles continued her excellent performance into last Friday’s matchup against Winona State on the road. Robles had the second double–double for the Wildcats in as many games last week with 19 kills, and 12 digs. WSC defeated the Warriors in four sets with scores of 25–14, 25–17, 17–25, 30–28. WSC had an efficient hitting percentage on the road at .285 percent. WSC continued the physical net play with seven blocks in the game.
The final game of last week’s slate featured two undefeated teams in the NSIC at 6–0, when WSC traveled to #11 Concordia–St. Paul. Adversity and fatigue showed profusely throughout the game as WSC fell in three sets, 14–25, 21–25, 12–25.
WSC was held to a season low hitting percentage of .039 and tallied 24 errors in the contest. Freshman outside hitter Mattie Kamery led the Wildcats attacking efforts with six kills, Robles with five, and sophomore middle hitter Chloe Hanel had five kills as well. The serving effort was still a bright spot for the Wildcats as they picked up four aces in total.
With this past week’s results, Wayne State College volleyball moved to 13–3 and 6–1 in the NSIC on the season. WSC moved into a tie for third in the NSIC standings. They trail only Concordia–St. Paul and St. Cloud State at 7–0.
Wayne State also moved to #11 in the latest AVCA Division II polls, while Concordia–St. Paul climbed to #9 and St. Cloud State moved to #10.
