The Women’s Rugby team took on Augustana and won with an astonishing score of 99–14. With this great of a match, the whole team was declared man of the match.
This game was on the road in Sioux Falls, SD. With the match being on the road, it led to a different environment for the team to be playing in. This meant a lot considering that the team allowed for several new players at any time.
The Wildcat’s put on a tough match and really came out of the gates right away for the win over Augustana. This showed that even with a team with new players that might have never played the game before, they are ready to go out and play their all.
“We knew that both teams had low numbers for this game, which is usually something that can sometimes worry us, but everyone really stepped up and played their part, and it definitely showed,” Mary McKulsky said.
Rugby is a sport that takes up a lot of physicality and energy. This shows that the Wildcat’s are filled with several athletic aspects in each player no matter how experienced. Most of their matches against other teams are high scoring on the Wildcat’s side compared to the opponent’s side which was shown in this match.
McKulsky said, “It always feels good to leave a trip with a win, and this was our highest scoring game all season with a lot of girls getting tries and great runs. It really just shows us how important every person’s role is on the field.”
The team really cares for each other and is always helping one another grow. The Wildcats are very close, and each girl is always looking to be there for the other. Having this close knit of a team allows for great bonding and getting to know each other more to see how they can also help each other on and off the field. The team is constantly practicing as well and always striving to be a better team together.
“As a team we usually try to spend the last practice of the week running through game scenarios and practicing our defense which is super beneficial,” McKulsky said.
When on the field the team knows how to really work together and always go for the win but also just has a good time together. With a team that gets together so often and always welcoming new players it shows that the team is very determined and hard–working.
