Homecoming Week is just around the corner, which means it’s time to raise our school spirit! With activities and spirits ready, wonder is inspired about how successful these weeks can be after a strong selection of events.
Homecoming Week has been a staple for our school to foster school spirit, so why is it such a popular week to engage in? There are several reasons why Homecoming Week is hugely popular, but it’s centered on tradition to hype the school up through large events and their upcoming competition.
Executive Director of Cat PAC Anja Oelofse shared how progress on Homecoming Week has been continuing the struggles of trying to keep tradition for Homecoming.
“It takes a lot of trial and error and research,” Oelofse stated.
Typically, preparing Homecoming Week takes several weeks to ensure that everything runs smoothly, but as stated, it’s trial and error. With that, prepared events were focused on the students, which is why the Rage Room was introduced instead of a live performance based on what would be a more popular choice.
One of the biggest things that Homecoming provides is the selection of Homecoming Royalty. For how big the event usually is, there was a problem due to the lack of submissions, so they extended the deadline for Wednesday, Sept. 17.
“We had to extend the deadline because the number of submissions were less than expected,” Oelofse. “We shared it to the rest of the students…they can nominate themselves.”
Despite how preparations have been going, there are things to look forward to. The introduction of the Rage Room and Cowboy Crafts on Wednesday, Sept. 24 and the Homecoming Royalty Coronation on Monday, Sept. 22 are among the events that students would look forward to.
