The Jewell Invitational hosted by Winona State will be held Sept. 22 and 23 where Wayne State College will look to continue to play well.
With this being their second tournament, it will allow them to build more confidence in their play and see how their season will potentially go.
The team seemed to do well last meet as they placed eighth in the Central Region Preview.
Several of the placings were just one stroke apart from being one of the top placers compared to the rest of the field.
This upcoming invitational will hold new possibilities for several of the players on the team.
As this meet is going to be at Lake City, Minnesota it leads to thoughts of how the weather will affect the greens as well. The weather difference between Minnesota and Nebraska can be quite different at times especially with it being in the middle of September. The golfers will have to take this into consideration when they are out there playing their rounds.
Erica Lee, junior golfer for WSC, shot +11 in the first tournament for the Wildcats.
“Since our last tournament, we have had a couple weeks off of competition to really practice and pinpoint which areas of our game that we each need to improve on,” Lee said.
This shows that the team is always willing to improve and make more of an impact to place higher in competitions and just become a better player overall.
“In order to catch up with other teams and climb up the leaderboard, we need to start hitting more greens and making a lot more birdies,” Lee said.
In all it seems that the team is put together in general, they just want to improve more and get better scores as any team would. The team wants to achieve high goals in the future and has been very focused on their game and improving in areas that need to be more focused on.
“I think our main goal for this season is to set ourselves up in a good spot towards the top of the conference and regional rankings, so that we have momentum going into our championship season next spring,” Lee said.
Overall, the team is looking forward to the Jewell Invitational next week and can’t wait to see how their practice these past few weeks will show off on the course.
