KTCH and KCTY began their 47th annual egg hunt on April 9, encouraging participants to listen to radio stations and visit sponsoring businesses in order to win prizes.
Two-part clues for the locations of the egg were given on Big Red Country 104.9 and The City 98.9/1590, with the first clue being broadcasted in the morning, and later being repeated with the addition of the second clue in the afternoon.
“It’s a great promotion because one, you have to listen to the radio to get the most recent clues, two, you have to go to the sponsors in order to find previous clues,” Program Director Dan Baddorf said.
Baddorf has been hiding the eggs and creating the radio clues for their locations for almost 40 years, according to Wayne Daily News.
“They’re not repeated, and they’re not printed anywhere except at the sponsors,” Baddorf said. “It’s a lot easier to understand the clues when you actually read them.”
The process encouraged participants to visit the sponsoring locations, promoting business.
This year’s sponsors include Allo Fiber, Aqua Pop, Ameriprise Financial Rath Walling and Associates, Bloom and Grace, Dairy Queen, Davis Ford, Discount Furniture, Family First Dental, Godfather’s Pizza, Our Savior Lutheran Church, Pac N Save, Pizza Hut, Providence Community Pharmacy, Quality Foods, Short Stop/Back Stop, State National Insurance, U Save Pharmacy, Wayne ACE Hardware and Home and Witts Jewelry.
Despite the name, the egg was actually an object hidden in plain sight that was hinted at in the radio clues.
After having found the egg, the winning participant turned it into the radio station west of Wayne and won the entire available prize package.
“There’s plenty of prizes so it’s worth the effort for everybody to look for it and think about what the clues mean,” Baddorf said.
Because there were a multitude of prizes, teamwork among participants as well as parents and children were encouraged, according to Wayne Daily News.
Wayne Dailey News reported key items in this year’s prize package included one year of free one gigabyte service for residential internet from Allo Fiber and $500 in Benjamin Moore paint and sundries from Wayne ACE Hardware and Home. There were also other prizes from the sponsors.
