Wayne State’s very own “Alt Fest” is returning for its second appearance on April 24.
This free concert at Wayne State College’s Willow Bowl features local student bands from Wayne. The bands featured this year are Lou Lou Louie!, Hitchcock Blonde, Foxpelt and Lazarus Go Home.
Alt Fest is a music festival started last year by CatPAC as a way for students to have a break and celebrate the end of the year.
“I really wanted to host a big event before I graduate,” Jasmine Snyder, one of the event organizers for Alt Fest, said. “I remember how fun it was last year, and I wanted to bring that back again for the students to celebrate the end of the semester, and for the community to come out and enjoy music made by local students.”
Anja Oelofse, one of the organizers with CatPAC, said that she was worried they wouldn’t be able to hold a second Alt Fest due to funding, but KWSC stepped in and partnered with CatPAC to bring back Alt Fest.
The bands featured at this event are all local bands comprised of students. The returning band Lou Lou Louie! premiered last year at Alt Fest with covers of popular songs, as well as some of their own music, such as their song “Coolmathgames Ruined My Mom’s Computer.” The other bands at this event are all bands making their first appearance at Alt Fest, these bands are Hitchcock Blonde, Fox Pelt and Lazarus Go Home.
“I’m really excited,” Shea Miotke, the lead singer of Hitchcock Blonde, said. “We’ve been working really hard, and we’re so lucky to have this opportunity.”
The concert is on the 24 of April from 6-9 p.m. at the Willow Bowl, and is free and open to the public.
