Nebraska recently launched a new website aimed at recruiting new personnel for local and state police.
The website, Secure the Good Life, can direct people looking to work as an attorney general, sheriff or another member of the police force. There are testimonial videos from Nebraska workers who have experience in each field, including a video from Amy Miller, who is a Wayne County attorney.
“I defeated a 26-year incumbent, and I put in a lot of work with kids at home and traveling door-to-door throughout the entire county,” Miller said in her testimonial. “When I found out I had won, I knew my hard work had paid off.”
Before potential police officers can apply for jobs in law enforcement, they are required to take a 15-week basic training course at the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center.
The Grand Island campus has two main divisions, including the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Academy and the Nebraska State Patrol Training Academy.
According to the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center website, “The training program is a physically and mentally challenging program that incorporates a blend of online learning, classroom instruction and hands-on skill development.”
Aside from helping officers who have completed their training seek jobs, the new Secure the Good Life website also details why potential officers should choose to reside in Nebraska, outlining the state’s quality of life, education, communities, scenery and friendliness.
Some of the testimonial videos do a good job of outlining this on a more personal level.
Miller said she chose to work in Wayne County because she not only enjoyed her time as an undergraduate student at Wayne State College, but that the friendliness and safety of the community were important aspects to her when choosing a job.
Secure the Good Life also has links to job opportunities and openings throughout the state. This easy-access website has the potential to spread awareness about Nebraska jobs and increase workforce statewide. While this is the explicit purpose of the website, without proper advertisement, Secure the Good Life is rendered useless.
