CatPAC is getting ready for their new annual event, The Amazing Race, on April 15.
This event will take place in the Frey Conference Suite of the student center from 7-9 p.m., though students hoping to compete will have to be there by 6:30 p.m. and go to the Student Activities Office to guarantee their spots in the event.
This year will mark the first time Wayne State College has done an Amazing Race event. Throughout this event, students will race around campus in teams while also facing some challenges and finding clues along the way. CatPAC has been working tirelessly to prepare for this competition. Anja Oelofse, an event planner in CatPAC, spoke about how this event came to be.
“I grew up watching ‘The Amazing Race’ with my parents, and I loved it, and I’ve always wanted to do it as well,” Oelofse said. “When we were thinking of ideas of what to do like event-wise last year, me and Jessalyn, who is a former CatPAC coordinator, we were working on this. But it was a bit too big and too ambitious for us two to do at the end of the year. So, we decided to push it to this semester and yeah, so that’s what we’re doing–the CatPAC’s Amazing Race.”
This event is completely free to sign up for. The only thing students will be required to bring to the race is the student ID card. They also have to make sure that they have someone to join them. If a student does not have a team, they cannot participate in the race.
“I feel like you can expect there being a lot of the same format as the TV show,” Oelofse said. “We will have roadblocks and the same-like order of challenges. I don’t want to give away what the challenges are, but there’s, like, physical challenges, there’s odd challenges where you’ll have to trust your partner to help you and lead you. There’s challenges where you’ll have to use your brain and knowledge about CatPAC, and then also your knowledge about on-campus life and how the campus works.”
Students can sign up for CatPAC’s Amazing Race online. Around campus, there are posters for the event with QR codes attached to them. Students can scan the QR codes to sign up if they are interested in participating in the race.
